Mimosa (Albizia julibrissin)
Heart Chakra
Motto: “My bright head greets the morning and my leaves sleep at night.”
Origin: Asia. A fast growing tree with pink, tufted flowers and a delicate perfume, the leaves fold up at night.
Traditional herbal uses: The bitter and astringent bark is used to shrink inflamed tissues, especially the uterus. The sedative bitter compounds are also used to relieve pain, treat insomnia or anxiety, increase blood circulation and to treat heart palpitation. It also increases the flow of urine and is used to treat inflammatory skin conditions.
Energetic properties:
-Restful sleep
-Relaxation
-Eases “frazzled” feelings
-Encourages forgiveness
This flower reminded me of my godparents’ backyard in Queens, NY – they had planted a mimosa when they bought their house and I watched it grow (quickly) with fascination. The delicate, sweet smelling “feathers” and leaves that went to sleep at night were enchanting. It was a real pleasure to see a mimosa again.
